Two CLX Horus towers list the same Ultra 9 285K, 96GB of DDR5, 2TB NVMe and 8TB drive. Only the graphics card differs, and the RTX 5090 version costs $2,400 more. Across four matched configurations the premium runs $1,800 to $2,550. Buy the 5080 unless you can name the upgrade.
On this page
Two towers from the same builder. Same processor, same memory, same drives, same Windows. One has an RTX 5080 in it and one has an RTX 5090.
The gap is $2,400, and nothing else in the box changes.
That is worth knowing before you read a spec sheet that describes the more expensive machine as the higher-end system, because in the fields the seller publishes, it is not a higher-end system. It is the same system with a different card.

The matched pair
| Published field | Horus TGMHORRTU5103BM | Horus TGMHORRTZ5108BM |

| Graphics | RTX 5080 16GB | RTX 5090 32GB |
| Processor | Core Ultra 9 285K | Core Ultra 9 285K |
| Memory | 96GB DDR5 | 96GB DDR5 |
| SSD | 2TB NVMe | 2TB NVMe |
| Hard drive | 8TB | 8TB |
| OS | Windows 11 Home | Windows 11 Home |
| Power supply | 850W | 1000W |
| Price | $4,699.99 | $7,099.99 |
Everything but the card and the supply is identical as published. Both listings were reopened on September 7 and still matched.
It holds across the field
The pair could be a quirk of one builder, so here is the same test run across every RTX 5080 and 5090 desktop in the August feed, grouped by exact processor, memory capacity and SSD description:
| Matched configuration | Listings 5080 / 5090 | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D · 32GB · 2TB NVMe | 12 / 1 | $2,550 |
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D · 64GB · 4TB NVMe | 5 / 2 | $2,050 |
| Ryzen 9 9950X3D · 64GB · 4TB NVMe | 1 / 1 | $1,800 |
| Core Ultra 9 285K · 96GB · 2TB NVMe | 2 / 2 | $2,515.50 |
$1,800 to $2,550, every time, for the card alone. Some of those groups are small — the row counts are in the table — so read them as the size of the question to put to a seller, not as a fixed fee.
Buy the 5080
Start from the RTX 5080 quote. It is the same computer.
Move up only if you can name what the card does for you that the 5080 does not — 4K at high refresh, or a workload that genuinely needs 32GB of VRAM rather than 16GB. Those are real reasons and the GPU-level comparison settles them properly, with benchmarks this page does not attempt.
What is not a reason: the more expensive tower being described as the better machine. On the published fields, it is not.

What changes besides the card. These listings match on capacity, which is not the same as matching on component. Ask for the exact motherboard, drive model, cooler and warranty terms on both machines before you accept that they are otherwise the same box. Worth knowing what you are asking for: of six prebuilt listings opened in detail, five state a warranty term and one states none at all.
What feeds the card. Our census of 82 RTX 5090 systems found 91% state a supply wattage, 21% state an efficiency rating, 6% state an ATX 3.x revision, and none names the connector. At $7,000 that is a fair question to make someone answer.
The 5080 survey and 5090 survey carry the per-seller detail. Prices here are from the August 17 feed and will have moved — check before ordering.
