The short version

Graphics card prices spent the whole RTX 50 and RX 9000 generation above MSRP, and most of the numbers that circulate are undated screenshots. This page is a dated, checkable record: the cheapest qualifying street price for eight current cards at named direct US retailers only, each scored against its launch MSRP, with the method, the acceptance rules, every rejection reason and the raw data published beside the numbers.

It is labeled a pilot because the index metric has an activation gate, and the gate status is printed here verbatim rather than worked around.

Every row carries verification_status: discovery_only and publish_ready is False: stock is the retailer page’s own flag at fetch time; exact variant matching is mechanical by title, not confirmed by a person.

Recent qualifying observations

The file below accumulates one row per qualifying offer for each capture date. The table below shows the two latest capture dates so current rows are easy to find. Download the complete CSV history below it for all earlier rows. Both views use the same raw file at build time.

Correction, September 15, 2026. The first version of this table counted eight September 14 listings as new, standalone cards. Five were recertified PNY cards at Newegg. One was Gigabyte’s AORUS AI BOX, an external GPU enclosure. Two sold a card with another product: a Best Buy package that included a Samsung SSD, and a Newegg listing that included an ASRock power supply. I removed those eight rows, fixed the two rules that let them in, and re-ran the corrected rules over the stored September 14 search response. No new prices were collected. Three cheapest offers changed. The RTX 5060 Ti moved from $739.99 to $799.99, the RTX 5070 from $800.99 to $869.99 (now at Best Buy), and the RTX 5070 Ti from $1,119.99 to $1,149.99. The day’s median premium to MSRP moved from +48.1% to +53.5%.

Method, exactly

The current method, first used on September 26, queries each tracked card on Newegg and confirms the selected sold-by-Newegg item on its pinned product page. The row comes from ItemDetail: FinalPrice less a real shipping charge, seller, stock, new/refurbished/open-box flags and fetch time. Marketplace, used, refurbished, open-box, out-of-stock, wrong-model, non-card and out-of-band rows are rejected. Stock and the mechanical title match are not independently verified.

The archived captures used Google Shopping (US, English) via DataForSEO’s merchant API. That collection route is retired. The historical method used one exact-model query per tracked card. Under that historical method, an offer qualified only if the seller matches a named direct-retailer allowlist (Best Buy, Newegg, B&H, Micro Center, Adorama, Walmart first-party, and peers — marketplace suffixes excluded), the title names the exact model and states its VRAM, the listing is a single discrete card rather than a laptop, prebuilt, external enclosure, bundle, or multi-product package, condition is new (not used, refurbished, recertified, or open-box), and the USD price sits between 0.5x and 3.0x the card’s MSRP. Each accepted row records its premium or discount to MSRP to one decimal.

The tracked cards: RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, 5070 and 5060 Ti 16GB, and RX 9070 XT, 9070 and 9060 XT 16GB. Their MSRPs were verified against NVIDIA and AMD press releases on 2026-09-05; the verbatim passages are in the basket file in the site’s repository, alongside the collector, its tests, and every capture’s raw response.

The index metric (median cheapest premium across cards) activates at six of eight qualifying cards on the same day. Below that, the observations still publish; the index row does not.

What this price index does not cover

This basket answers dated price and MSRP questions for eight new, current-generation cards. It does not price used cards, older RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 stock, or today’s deals outside the recorded capture. Use the GPU hierarchy for performance ranks and Intel’s place in the field, and the Plex and Jellyfin GPU guide for hardware- acceleration support. Those are different questions from street price.

• 0.9.1 (2026-09-15) — correction to the September 14 capture, with no new capture taken. Eight rows that break the rules on this page were removed from gpu-price-observations.csv. Five were “Recertified - PNY” cards at Newegg (RTX 5060 Ti $739.99, RTX 5070 $800.99, RTX 5070 Ti $1,119.99, and two RTX 5080 listings at $1,599.99). The other three were the Gigabyte RTX 5060 Ti AORUS AI BOX external enclosure ($899.99, Newegg), a Best Buy package pairing an ASUS RTX 5070 with a Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD ($1,289.98), and a Newegg listing pairing a ZOTAC RTX 5070 Ti with an ASRock 750W power supply ($1,374.98). The collector’s condition rule did not recognize “recertified”, and its card rule did not recognize “External Graphics”, Best Buy’s “Package” listings, or a power supply in the title. I fixed both rules, added regression tests built from these listings, and re-ran the rules over the stored response. Eligible offers for the day fall from 32 to 24, and 7 of 8 cards still qualify. The 2026-09-14 row in gpu-price-index.csv is restated in place. Its median premium moves from +48.1% to +53.5% and its median cheapest price from $800.99 to $869.99; the minimum and maximum are unchanged. The method name stays gpu-street-price-discovery-v1 because this page already excluded these listings and the collector had not enforced that. Until this entry, the FAQ answer saying refurbished listings are rejected was false for that capture.
