Tools
Free browser-based tools for homelab and PC decisions: PSU wattage, power cost, UPS runtime, NAS and SSD sizing, LLM VRAM, and self-hosting break-even.
TechFuel HQ tools
These calculators and pickers cover homelab and PC decisions. Calculations run in your browser. No account is required. I use Google Analytics to measure visits and tool interactions, and retailer-link measurement can identify selected products; calculator settings are removed from Google Analytics page URLs and referrers while campaign tags remain.
About this section
Shared links include your settings. Anyone with the link can read them, and opening it sends the URL to the site’s hosting infrastructure. The privacy policy covers those requests, Cloudflare Web Analytics and site-search measurement.
Every tool entry links back to the article that justifies its catalog choices. The methodology behind every component pick is in the colophon.

GPU Comparison Tool: Compare Any Two Graphics Cards (2026)
Compare any two graphics cards at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K: the real raster gap and where VRAM flips the result, built on Tom's Hardware benchmarks.
CPU Comparison Tool: Compare Any Two Gaming Processors (2026)
Compare any two CPUs for gaming head-to-head via the Tom's Hardware 1080p hierarchy: the real gap and why it shrinks at higher resolutions.
SSD Endurance Calculator: Host Writes to TBW
Calculate time to your SSD's rated TBW from daily host writes or convert DWPD to TBW. Estimate NAND writes separately with an optional WAF input.
Homelab capacity & cost
Homelab Power & Cost Calculator
Calculate your homelab's annual electricity cost, 3-year TCO, and savings vs cloud. Enter each device's idle and load watts, hours per day, and your rate.
Proxmox VM Capacity Planner
Enter host RAM, CPU cores, and VM profile to see how many VMs or LXC containers your Proxmox server can run, with ZFS ARC overhead included.
Docker Homelab RAM Planner
Calculate total RAM for your self-hosted Docker stack. Pick apps like Jellyfin, Nextcloud, Immich, n8n, and Home Assistant to see idle vs peak use and sizing.
NAS & RAID Capacity Calculator
RAID capacity calculator: usable storage, parity overhead, and fault tolerance for RAID 0/1/5/6/10 and ZFS RAIDZ1/2/3, compared side by side.
UPS Runtime Calculator
Enter your system load and UPS rating to estimate runtime in minutes. See if your UPS can handle a graceful shutdown and which models fit your target.
Frigate NVR Storage Calculator
Estimate disk space for a Frigate NVR by cameras, resolution, codec, and retention — plus the /dev/shm size Frigate needs. Continuous vs motion compared.
Self-Hosting Break-Even Calculator
Add your SaaS subscriptions, hardware budget, and electricity rate to see exactly when self-hosting pays for itself, month by month, over a 5-year projection.
Networking
Network Transfer Time Calculator
Estimate how long moving your data takes: pick size, link (1/2.5/10GbE, USB, Thunderbolt), and drive speed to see transfer time and your real bottleneck.
Data Usage Calculator: Estimate Your Monthly Internet GB
Estimate your monthly internet data usage in GB from streaming, gaming, video calls, and downloads - and whether you'll pass a 1.2 TB cap. Free, in-browser.
Subnet & CIDR Calculator: IP Ranges, Masks, Hosts
Enter an IPv4 address and CIDR prefix to get the network, broadcast, usable host range, subnet mask, wildcard, and host count — plus split a block into subnets.
PoE Power Budget Calculator: Will Your Switch Power It All?
Size a PoE switch for your APs, cameras, and phones. Add devices, cable length, and headroom to get the budget to buy — plus an 802.3af/at/bt reference.
Displays & gaming
