This tool turns a monitor’s diagonal size and aspect ratio into its real physical dimensions - width and height in both inches and centimeters - plus the screen area and a plain-English desk-fit verdict. Enter a diagonal and pick an aspect ratio, or tap a preset for a common screen. It is the answer to “how wide is a 34-inch ultrawide, actually?” and “will this thing fit on my desk?”
The key insight the diagonal alone hides: width, not the diagonal, decides whether a screen fits your space, and two monitors with the same diagonal can be very different shapes. A 34-inch 21:9 ultrawide is 3.5 inches wider than a 32-inch 16:9, yet it is also shorter and has slightly less total screen area - because ultrawides trade height for width. A 49-inch 32:9 is nearly four feet (120 cm) across. The calculator makes those trade-offs concrete before you buy. Assumptions and sources
- Width, height, and area are exact geometry from the diagonal and aspect ratio (height = diagonal / sqrt((w/h)^2 + 1)); there is no external data in the core result.
- The 20-30 inch viewing-distance figure behind the desk-depth advice is consistent with OSHA’s computer-workstation guidance on monitor placement.
